All research is expected to have a Sponsor who takes responsibility for the initiation, management and financing (or arranging the financing) of the study. The sponsor satisfies itself that the study meets the relevant standards and ensures that arrangements are put and kept in place for management, monitoring and reporting.

Researchers will need to have a confirmed Sponsor for their research before they apply for any approvals.  It is expected that student studies are sponsored by the Higher Education Institution where the student is based.

If you are unable to identify a Sponsor for your research then please discuss this with the Research Office who can offer advice.

Please also see the guidance document on sponsorship principles as well as our SOPs for sponsoring studies.
