The results of Clots in Legs Or sTockings after Stroke (CLOTS) 3 trial have been published in the NIHR HTA and the International Journal of Stroke. The trial tested whether or not squeezing the legs with intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) sleeves reduced the risk of deep vein thrombosis DVT. The results demonstrate that IPC is an effective and inexpensive way to reduce the risk of DVT in stroke patients and it also improves their chances of survival. Researchers recommend that the IPC should be considered in all immobile stroke patients, however, the final decision should be based on a judgment about the individual's prognosis.
